I’m a sucker for a monogram. It is one design element I just can’t seem to get enough of. It could be because I’m southern, and we just seem to like them. Or it could be that Richie and I have only been married for a year, so my last name is still fresh and new. And of course, the graphic person in me just loves the typography of it.
Either way, I think it is a great way to personalize a space. And it doesn’t have to be boring. No sireee. I worked them into our wedding decor, and re-purposed them into vignettes around the house:
I also stole one from the group to add a little personalization to our Christmas wreath last year. (Please excuse the really bad camera phone picture):
For my birthday this year, Richie bought me this beauty with my new monogram etched into the glass lid:

Or, of course, there’s always the traditional pillow route for those wanting a more temporary commitment:

In a more permanent application, the amazing Sarah Richardson had this unique lettering in her Summer House. I just love how subtle it is.

Emily at Jones Design Company created the cutest trio of monograms for her little boys. (I’m such a sucker for burlap and stripes!):

I also quite like her Wall of L’s:

I’ve started a Monograms Pinterest board to keep track of the new ideas I find along the way… follow it if you love monograms as much as I do! And really, who doesn’t?!

Love the “L” wall. Finding ways to collect them might be hard, but just moved less than a year so this would be great either in the hallway or over my couch.
So many of them could be diy. Take a page from an old book, set it in your printer and use Word to type up a huge initial. Or if you like a rustic look, make your initial using twigs and twine. If your initial is “O”, you could use a wreath. So many options for cheap and diy… Just need to get creative!
